Seems like it's not the problem of the engine itself, but rather the Steam integration. cause I don't remember there ever being so many of these 'cpu at full tilt for no obvious reasons'-problems before... More info: I've got 8GB and only 4.5GB are being used. That said, I'm running this game on my Dual-Core rig and most of the game freezing stopped about five minutes into gameplay.

I can run Crysis, The Witcher 2 and pretty much every other game released in the last couple of years MAXED and SMOOTH. key thing to note in both situations is that, even though all cores are being used, they're being used poorly, or barely at all. Having several processor intensive programs running at the same time would cause this also. For unknown reasons, cpu 0, can hit 100%, while cpu1 usage bounces around as "normal".
BleepingComputer is being sued by Enigma Software because of a negative review of SpyHunter. I bet 90% of all single GPU setups won't be bottlenecked by a fast dual, depending on the game of course, and not at frames that would matter anyway. Its ok after the restart. Naughty naughty Steam.
I'm now back to running at about 0-7% CPU with 45 processes and IE open.
