Smokes On Startup


On some engines it is pretty easy to replace the valve stem seals. What is the level of the coolant both in the radiator and overflow bottle? I think this vehicle had multiple causes of the smoke. 1 out of 1 people think this is helpful. When a mechanic was in between jobs or held up on parts they would grab one off the back lot and start in with the PITA job of cleaning the valve they allow the oil to drain back to the crankcase , they can/will get sludged up and slow oil draining back to crankcase . If you have this same problem with you're truck, I strongly recommend replacing both PCV's ($10-$15 a piece) and both valve covers ($30 a piece from Nissan) before you do anything White Smoke On Startup Diesel

I feel better about the problem and will likely accept the suggestion to monitor the oil level, use a high mileage oil, and just ride it out.

You could run a compression test as suggested but I have my doubts that it will show anything. the true cause could just be the sludge building up in the top left hand corner of your rocker box just bellow your PCV valve. It could also be that oil consumption is continuing even if you don't notice it.

After the initial cloud which is the oil that has oozed into the valve ports the problem may still be there; just not as noticeable. I have a 2009 with the same issue. If not pull the heads and have a machine shop do them. So the truck is a 05 Colorado 4x4 i5 that my father bought new.
